Vidin - Bulgaria
State Academy of Music where he studied Orchestral Conducting under Professor Konstantin Iliev (1979). He also attended the conducting courses of Ferrara in Sienna, Italy (1980) and Dauns in the Netherlands (1981), and also the composition classes of Professor Anatol Vieru in Ruse (1995). From 1977 to 1986 he was conductor at the State Music Theatre. Since 1986 he has been a freelance composer and conductor. He conducted the major Bulgarian symphony orchestras and made premiere performances and studio recordings of lots of contemporary Bulgarian and foreign works, part of which were produced on CDs in Bulgaria, Italy, USA (“Concord CA” and “USA”). He appeared as a jazz pianist at international festivals in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Rumania, Germany, Portugal, France, the USA, the Netherlands, Norway.
He wrote five musical plays; ballet; for symphony orchestra works; chambre music; vocal works; theatre and film music; jazz pieces, etc. His music was performed in lots of countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Mexico, Turkey, India, Russia, China and Egypt. His complete work was registered at the Bulgarian National Radio and the Bulgarian National Television, and part of it was issued on LPs, cassettes and CDs. In December 2000 the Bulgarian National Television made a film about Denev entitled Music I Make, which was broadcast many times on Channel I and on satellite channels. The musical play The Law of the Jungle was performed at the Saint-Denis University Centre in Paris in 1993. With the performance of his opera Love’s Labours Won the Chamber Opera of Blagoevgrad inaugurated the New Verdi Theatre in Cairo. He was awarded the first prize at The Golden Orpheus Festival (1979) for the song “Predutrin” (Before Dawn). He was awarded prizes for pop music and children’s songs by the Bulgarian National Radio and the Bulgarian National Television, etc. He was also awarded the prize “Sofia ’89” for The Law of the Jungle; the prize for original theatre music of the Maestro Dimitar Valchev Foundation for his ballet Homo Ludens and the musical play Alice (1999), the Prize Askeer 2001 for theatre music (for the musical play Yesterday).
